Preproject documentation on erecting the exhibition complex is implemented on the base the existing development located on the address: 56, Kalinin St, Krasnoyarsk. The analysis of architectural and engineering documentation has been performed for the purpose of detecting opportunities to use buildings and structures in the complex.

According to the design objectives the space-and-planning solutions have been taken subject to the architectural concept of the exposition designed by the Reprograd planning laboratory. Space-and-planning solutions According to the analysis results the decision on necessity of demolishing the existing garage and a storage unit located behind the building line has been made. A tree-storeyed building is included into the complex with its obligatory reconstruction. The complex consists of three parts:

  1. a main building within the allotted land;
  2. a pedestrian bridge across Kalinin Street with some elements of exposition functions;
  3. a passage inside the blocks up to the water front of the Bugach River with some elements of exposition functions.

Structural units

The structural exposition complex consists of the metallic framework bridged with the large span metallic girders. The walls are sandwich-panels. Bridging is made of monolithic reinforced concrete. The existing brick building would be built into the complex by the means of the isolation joint. The girders under the atrium would be calculated to be imposed on as possible by the load from the huge museum pieces and exposition equipment. The aperture for installing large-dimensional museum pieces and structures directly in the exposition hall would be planned in the wall outside the block passage .

Functional zoning

The design is provided for separating two main technological flows such as visitors' walk and a way of displacing museum pieces due to differentiating planning levels. The entrance for visitors is located from Kalinin Street, whereas a private entrance and incoming platform are located in the yard on the lower level. The atrium plays a main role in the museum arrangement, where there are basic areas of exhibition halls. There are some rooms for the staff conducting research and some workshops in the three-storied building reconstructed. The orientation of the working space is north. Storages and engineering rooms are situated on the basement floor of the complex. The design enables to introduce a number of premises like a café, a hall for temporary exposition and a conference hall.

Exhibition organization

Only genuine museum pieces would be shown, they are combined into the subject matter for covering their contents. The subject matter can include several designs of exposure according to the different details of the material given in order to satisfy needs of various types of visitors. The designers tend to reduce maximum window and door openings, fix rigidly structural supports and partitions which hamper exhibition rearrangement and organization. The exhibition itinerary may be compulsory, free or combined. Organizing visual strategy of the visitors' behavior enables to cover and assess exposition as a whole for making a decision related the further viewing. In order to organize convenient exhibition itinerary and generate additional emotional effects it is possible to use escalator connecting the first and fourth levels.

Collection storage

Special storage well equipped are provided for the museum pieces; the storages are connected with exposition halls by freight and passenger lifts. Beside special storage a reception room for exhibits, an isolator and a sterilizer room are designed. Working space for the museum staff and exhibition halls are isolated from the storages. Collection storages are divided into separate sections related to the types of stored materials for generating optimal temperature-humidity conditions for all types of pieces. Workshops isolated from the museum premises are provided for persevering and restoring museum pieces.

Exhibition activities

Exhibition activities are an essential part of museum participation in the modern social life. Expositions are organized from both the museum itself and the other ones. They open exposition opportunities and attract more and more visitors. The hall for replaceable expositions is located on the second level; it is connected visually with the pedestrian passage and can work freely. Arranging display units and installations is planned in the additional blocks of the complex and passages.

Cultural and educational work

Cultural and educational work includes organizing exhibitions, excursions, conducting lectures, conferences, meetings, parties, discussions, showing films, acting cultural societies; all these stipulate organizing cinema hall for conducting lectures and some rooms for acting cultural societies.

Effects

Visitors' traffic ascending by escalator to the beginning of the exposition coincides with the trajectory of incident rays from the lantern located in the roof covering of the building. Some museum pieces are stored and exhibited in the existing buildings which are seen from the museum and from the street. The museum is extended: the space of the pedestrian bridge can be used for placing temporary expositions. Several museum pieces are installed in the transparent brightened pillars in the street. The façade surfaces are perforated it enables to change the color of the building in the evenings and opens up the opportunities for optic interior design.
