USSR pavilion

1. The image

We believe that the pavilion's image should give people pain, pride and hope and the most impressive moments of our great era of our great country. In our opinion it is:

• interconnection of the World;
• revolution and Perestroyka, their drama, dynamics and inevitability;
• multivariate connection of consciousness and spirit, eternity of pure beginning of mankind;
• The way to mentality' triumph.

To reach the aim in its emotional expression we have chosen some symbols which are concrete, humane and many-sided in their interconnection.

These are being in a process of eternal movement white cubic elements which aim to form a cube — the symbol of perfection — as a chain of constructive steps to mentality. The golden hemispheres are the domes with their reflection in mirror walls as variety and disinterestedness of a spirit life of mankind, as unattainability of perfection the way to which is the great way of mentality, the way of grandiose discoveries. The golden wedding ceremony of nimbus is a symbol of eternity of pure beginning of mankind. At last the main: the fragments of the Moscow Kremlin' wall are as a support, the reliable pivot of living, as our eternal faith in mentality and justice' triumph.

In this image the main for us is: Frosty, ringing sigh of Dmitrievskii cathedral and hidden breath of ideal whiteness of cube form' perfection and severe dramatic strength of the Kremlin wall not always saved us in our hard history but it always was with us. It was our saint faith and we were aware of being a part of a game in which a wish to gain perfection and truth belongs to all mankind.

2. Functional solutions and communications

The technical block (conditioning, dust control, firefighting, switchboard and etc.) and miscellaneous functions are located at the podium (height is 4.50). Exhibition areas are divided into three levels by the subject matter and interconnected by two escalators of both directions. The first level is “The Earth” The second level is “The Space” The third level is “The Man” The first and second levels have space with two tiers. There are bars with kiosks connected by one vertical autonomous communication with foyer on the podium at all exhibition levels. There is a terrace on the roof. It is an observation area with two autonomous spiral stairs' exit to it. All bars are connected by products' elevator from podium level. The cargo elevator is foreseen from the service floor to all levels. The auditorium and the restaurant with a kitchen are situated in podium' level and can be used autonomously.

3. The constructive solution

The building was constructed in frame scheme. A bay is 15 m. Overhead covers were made of steel profiled covering by the system of main and secondary metal beams which from single overhead covers hard disk. Horizontal stresses are received by combined work of stiffening diaphragm (external walls, a central group of vertical engineering communications) and overhead covers disks.

4. The structure of accommodations:

The podium. 0.00. Total area is 2,275 m².

1. The restaurant with a kitchen, lavatories, storerooms and a terrace is 470 m².
2. The administrative block is 100 m².
3. The conference hall with a stage, a foyer, a bar, lavatories, administrative accommodations is 825 m².
4. Service rooms are 630 m².
5. Information, souvenirs, books — 250 m².

The first level. + 5.00. Total area is 1,640 m².

1. The hall “The Earth” is 1,170 m².
2. The bar with kiosks is 175 m².
3. The projection booth is 90 m².
4. Electronics 75 m².
5. Lavatories are 50 m².
6. Radio and television — 80 m².

The second level. + 10.00. Total area is 1,486 m².

1. The hall “The Space” is 1,400m².
2. The bar with kiosks is 85 m².

The third level. + 15.00. Total area is 1,135 m².

1. The hall “A Man” is 1,100 m².
2. The bar with kiosks is 35 m².
